Tanning salons using advanced technology and the latest equipment have taken the airbrush tanning process even further.

Airbrush tanning has become a fine art in itself. It is a thoroughly precise and modern way of applying a faux or sunless tan, and it is especially popular with people who don't have the time or patience to apply self-tanning products themselves. This tan in a can is applied by compressed air through a hose in much the same way an artist uses airbrush tools to paint a canvass. The tanning solution is distributed in fine particles that coat the skin smoothly and evenly.

Tanning salons using advanced technology and the latest equipment have taken the airbrush tanning process even further. By attaching a magnetic polarity to the molecules of the tanning solution, an even finer spray can be made. The solution falls on the skin in such tiny particles that a delicate texture and truly believable tan are created.

Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), the active ingredient in sunless tanning products, is a non-toxic sugar approved by the FDA that is mixed with an external bronzer formulated to enhance skin tone. This bronzer becomes visible as soon as the solution is sprayed on the skin. DHA reacts with the amino acids in dead skin cells which in turn combine with proteins in the skin cells to create a pigment called melanoidin. The degree of darkness achieved depends on the concentration of DHA in the tanning solution. The more DHA in the solution, the darker the tan will be.
